BLACK SUN by Søren Solkær

Monograph and exhibition series

Following the unique natural phenomenon closely since his upbringing, the new Black Sun artist edition by photographer Søren Solkær documents the mesmerizing starling murmurations of Southern Denmark in a limited edition print series of extraordinary graphical expression and craftsmanship.

From the very first photographic series taken by Søren Solkær in the southern Danish marshlands Plethora selected a handful of murmuration motives that seemed to posses a particular compositional purity and calm and decided to have them reproduced on custom bizan washi paper made for us in collaboration with a 12 generation traditional Japanese paper mill.

The suite of 5 A4 prints was compiled and collected in a handcrafted and riveted box set in limited edition of 300, signed and numbered copies.

As our collaboration with the Awagami paper mill intensified and as Søren’s work expanded to include murmurations from various other places in Europe it became possible to have custom sized bizan paper produced to make large format exhibition prints.

From here Plethora hosted and curated an exhibition series that travelled from Sage Gallery in Los Angeles to Mina Perhonen Galleria during the Kyotography photofair and from Frama Studio Copenhagen to Nota Shop Gallery in Shiga.

Søren presently continues his exhibition work on the Black Sun series and already has numerous dates set up at international museums for future events.
