PLETHORA ARTIST BOOKS
Crafting and publishing of bespoke monograph book editions
As a central part of Plethora’s publishing activities we continue to develop unique monograph book works. Usually the concepts for these originate from an intricate and longstanding curatorial collaboration with a artist first featured in Plethora Magazine and then progressed by crafting a novel expression and context to an image art series first introduced and unfolded here.
Through-out our design and development fase, we carefully work from an ethos of cultivating a deep and conceptual connection between the creative expression of the artist’s work and the material refinements of the book as an object - so every edition represents a new and unforeseen entrance into the world of the artist in close merger between the creative contents and the final material detailing.
Our aim is to present as honest and unmediated an expression of the original oeuvre as possible which is why we often opt for a trademark rustic and handcrafted approach where the inner qualities of custom developed paper stock, artisan made cover material or the idiosyncrasies of a manual fine art print for example clearly shine through - often fusing traditional manual processes with high-end off-set techniques in final printing processes as a result.
The Plethora artist editions are often designed to take on a broader, mediating role as a central showpiece and reference point in the Plethora travel exhibitions curated around the project - with complimentary, original art works on display.
From time to time, however, we also enjoy working from the clean slate of commissioned assignments and help create external book projects and catalogues for museum exhibitions etc.
