ÆON by Tilde Bay Kristoffersen
Monograph and solo exhibition project at Tableau, Copenhagen, 2022
An [Aeon] denotes the longest conceivable measure of time – of geological time or astronomic time – a span broad enough to absorb all sentiments of grief, mortality, cultivation and existence on the way to eternity.
On the basis of a 10 year photographic journey and on the backdrop of an Italian Art Deco sketchbook from 1942 artist Tilde Bay Kristoffersen composes mesmerizing photographic tableaus of transience, intimacy, elemental infinity and the human condition.
The eponymous AEON monograph was published December 2022 in limited edition of 300 copies, signed and numbered and each with a unique photographic prints on silk textile in every box suite.
Through vigorous archival research, vintage Italian book-binding cloth and paper stock was procured to achieve the exact same material feel as the now 80 year old original sketch book used for the photographic reproduction. The printing process was exacted precisely to emulate the montage style scrap book layout and each finished editions in the end individually patinated for unique trademarks.
Plethora curated the ensuing debut solo exhibition in collaboration with Tableau Gallery, Copenhagen which expanded on Tilde’s multidisciplinary processes and offered an intimate insight into the personalized workspace of the artist’s atelier as well as a selection of original, large format prints, collected artefacts and specialized textile print types emblematic of her varied oeuvre.
